For engraved labels, nameplates, tags, fobs,
plaques and more
Almost any material can be engraved and/or cut, including: rigid or flexible engraving laminate, plastic, cast or extruded acrylic (Perspex),
glass, wood, leather, metal, anodised aluminium, foam, fabric and rubber.
Made from acrylic with contrasting coloured layers so that engraving through the cap reveals the core to produce a detailed image.
We stock matt finish 1.5 mm thick material in the following colours : Black/White, White/Black, Red/White, White/Red, Blue/White, White/Blue,
Green/White, Yellow/Black, Gold/Black and Silver/Black.
Cast acrylic reacts when laser engraved to turn a milky colour which produces fine reproduction of photographs whereas extruded acrylic
engraves clear making it more appropriate for cutting out (profiling) into shapes.
Glass is laser engraved to produce a fine frosted effect on the surface, however, lead crystal does not engrave well due to the metal in
the material, although we have had some excellent successes engraving customers own designs onto this material. Cheaper glass generally
produces a better effect.
Lighter coloured wood finishes produce the best contrast for marking by laser. Ordinary soft wood scorches to a dark brown with significant
effects from the grain whereas sheets of high density fiberboard core with a wood laminate on each side produce a fine and more even image.
Solid hard wood is best for engraving deeply to produce well defined text.
Black leather generally engraves to reveal a light brown mark which is subtle but light leather usually produces a better contrast.
However, due to the different methods used to produce leather the final outcome cannot usually be confidently predicted.
We stock 2.3 mm thick laser rubber for manufacturing rubber stamps which is suitable for water-based, solvent-based and slightly acidic
ink.
Metal can be marked with a laser using special products such as Cermark or Thermark. These materials produce a durable, high colour density
black mark which is bonded to the surface of the metal and can only be removed by grinding.
Available in red, blue, silver, bronze and gold finish. Laser engraving reacts with the anodised surface to produce a white image.
Plates and shaped tags are available to order.
